Mother Earth

Mother Earth
The inspiration for the painting came from flying over Africa and seeing the shapes and colours of the land.

It reminded me of the shape of a woman and I dressed her in the patterns of the earth. The African landscape seen from the sky appears almost human in shape, the undulating land and rivers often takes on the form of a woman.

The earth, rich in its colours, and the shapes of the small farmsteads, seem to drape the body in its own dress.

Donated to the Eden Project.
